Fernando Carpaneda at Dirty Show 13 in Detroit. Lucky 13: Dirty Show erotic art exhibition announces 13th annual Detroit visit.

The Dirty Show, one of the world's largest erotic art exhibitions, will return to the D from February 10-18 -- just in time for Valentine's Day. The traveling national exhibition displays a mix of local and permanent erotic art in all forms -- from film and paintings to photography and live exhibitions of ballet, burlesque and more. The 2011 show featured more than 300 works of sexually-charged art, both vulgar and virtuous, by artists hailing from all over the globe. This year's open submission period for artists ended on Dec. 15. In an interview published last year, founder Jerry Vile says he thinks the exhibition's varied offerings can compete with large-scale museums like the DIA and Cranbrook. Feb. 8, 2011, Real Detroit: You'll see a wide variety of erotica --some beautiful, some disturbing, some of it funny -- but most is pretty tame; tame if you have been doing this for 12 years and have gotten jaded.
You'll see artists taking the most vulgar acts and making them beautiful, or taking the most beautiful acts and making it vulgar. You might even see something that horrifies you, but don't worry, because you can turn your head or take two steps and see something different. But most of the art is really beautiful, in a bent way. No word yet on the official location -- 2011's titillating bash was held at Bert's Warehouse in Detroit's Eastern Market. Grab an express-entry ticket from the
online presale -- it's $10 to $20 depending on the day, with a cash bar indoors. Prices usually rise at the gate, and individual nights often sell out. The dress code? Well, there isn't one -- so use your imagination. Be warned -- some evenings are explicitly programmed for audiences 21 and over.
